John and Marlena and The Days of Our Lives Alternate Reality Stories
Chapter 111
"Wake up sleepy head!" Marlena insisted drawing open the blinds
inside the dark bedroom to let the sunshine inside.
"Doc, what are you doing?" John asked opening his eyes and
glancing over at the clock that was next to the bed. "It's six thirty in
the morning."
"That's right it is." she said plopping down next to him on the
bed. "Now get up."
"But......" he trailed off in amazement at her sudden bout of
energy.
"No buts John. Now that I've got you home, we are going to spend
each day living it to the fullest." she explained giving him a quick
kiss. "Now why don't you let me help you pick out something to wear
today?"
"Doc, what are you doing up before ten in the morning?" John
questioned watching her move over to open the closet.
"I was up most of the night planning our day perfectly and I
couldn't wait any longer to get started." she insisted pulling a shirt
out of the closet. "What about this one?"
"Doc, look I know that you want to jump back into our old life,
but I don't think that......." he began as she raised her hand in the air
to silence him.
"Stop right there!" she announced walking over to his side. "I
know that you are still weak, but I think that this will do you some
good. Besides, I have a full day in store for us."
"Marlena, I just don't think that I'm up to going outside yet."
he insisted hoping that she would understand.
"John, you've been here for two days and I haven't been able to
talk you out of this room." Marlena explained sitting down next to him.
"The only time that the children and I see you anymore is at meal time."
"Doc, I'm just not the best person to be around right now." John
explained looking away from her. "I'm not in any condition to go outside
of this house."
"Don't you dare talk like that John." Marlena insisted grabbing a
hold of his face. "We have a full day ahead of us and I won't allow you
to be the pessimist any longer."
Jenny woke up to a wonderful smell filling her bedroom. She
opened her eyes and glanced out at the warm spring sunlight flooding
through her window. She let out a yawn when she heard some clanging in
the hallway.
"Eric are you alright?" Jenny questioned hearing the noise grow
louder.
"I'm fine." Eric replied walking into the bedroom with a tray in
his hands. "I just tripped over the box in the hall."
"I'm sorry, I knew that I should've moved that junk yesterday."
Jenny apologized as Eric made his way over to her. "Can you ever forgive
me?"
"I'll think about it." Eric replied leaning in for a kiss as he
placed the tray on Jenny's lap. "For you my lady."
"For me?" she asked carefully eyeing the tray.
"I made you breakfast in bed." he explained taking the lid off
one of the plates to reveal sausage, eggs, and hash browns. "I hope that
you're hungry."
"It looks fantastic. What did I do to deserve this?" she asked
reaching for her fork.
"You loved me." Eric replied plopping down into bed next to her.
"Besides, I figured that you'd be hungry after last night."
"Hey, I'm not the one who needs more energy." Jenny laughed
remembering how Eric had fallen asleep as soon as the had got into bed.
"Once we left the living room, you went to dreamland, remember?"
"I promise you that this morning we can make up for it." Eric
grinned tracing her shoulder with his index finger. "I have some great
ideas on how we can spend our morning."
"Oh yeah?" Jenny questioned pushing her breakfast tray aside.
"Yeah " Eric replied leaning over her as they moved down on the
bed. Eric rolled over on Jenny and the two began to kiss when suddenly a
loud noise filled the room causing Eric to leap off of Jenny. "What was
that?"
"Silly." Jenny laughed holding up the remote control. "You
turned the television on."
"I hope it's not the only thing that I turned on." Eric commented
pulling Jenny towards him.
"Why don't you come over here and let me show you?" Jenny
suggested holding the remote control and aiming to turn the television
off.
"And this morning in the news the residents in Salem are still
questioning the upcoming case of Roman Brady's untimely death.........."
the newscaster began.
"Wait!" Eric said taking the remote control from Jenny and
turning up the volume.
"........and the question still remains whether Stefano Dimera
was acting as a model citizen in an attempt to save Dr. Marlena Evans
life or as a cold blooded murderer. Time will tell as the town of Salem
prepares for what is predicted to be the trail of the century..." the
newscaster continued, ".........residents are still in shock to hear
that one of the witnesses scheduled to speak up in this case is Dr.
Evans, the prominent Salem psychiatrist whose family has been turned
upside down by Mr. Dimera for decades. The questions still remain behind
the testimony of Dr. Evans who has reportedly left town with her family
and in unavailable for comment at this time. Will her testimony be the
key to the deciding factor in Stefano Dimera's future? Time will
tell........"
"I can't believe this crap!" Eric snapped shutting off the
television. "This is ridiculous."
"Eric, this is a big case so of course the media is going to want
to jump all over it." Jenny reminded him quickly.
"I understand that, but it isn't fair that my mother has to get
dragged into this. After all Stefano has done to her, she shouldn't have
to testify for him." Eric explained to Jenny quickly. "The Dimera's have
done nothing but try to destroy my family and now my mother is being put
in the position to free Stefano and put him back on the streets again.
Where's the justice in that?"
"Eric, your mother is trying to do what's right." Jenny tried
explaining to him. "We don't know what happened that night and I'm
afraid that it's not up to us to decide Stefano's motivation in shooting
your father."
"He was just looking out for his own selfish needs regardless of
what he says." Eric replied in anger. "No matter what that man says, he
killed my father in cold blood."
"Eric, don't you think that you should give him the benefit of
the doubt? Your mother feels that it wasn't like that. Why don't you
just trust her judgement?" Jenny asked placing her hand on Eric's
shoulder.
"Because I know the Dimeras." Eric insisted facing her. "They
are hurtful people that can only bring harm to others. All they care
about is helping themselves out and destroying anything and anyone in
their paths."
"Don't you think you're being a bit harsh?" Jenny asked thinking
about his last comment. "Your father was trying to kill your mother
after all."
"Not a bit. As far as I'm concerned no Dimera is a good Dimera."
Eric snapped realizing that she looked uncomfortable. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." she sighed trying not to think about her past.
"Let's just focus on something else right now."
"I can think of something that I'd like to focus on." Eric said
moving in towards her neck as the telephone rang. "Hold that thought.
Hello, Jenny Barnes answering service. How may I help you?"
Jenny sat in bed laughing at his mock impersonation of a
secretary when he answered the phone. She watched his face cloud over as
he sat in silence with the phone receiver to his ear. She touched his
arm, but he shrugged away.
"No comment." he said hanging up the phone. "Damn it!"
"What's wrong Eric?" Jenny asked realizing how upset her was.
"It was one of those damn reporters looking for a quote about
Stefano's trial." Eric explained in frustration. "I have no idea why
they would be calling here unless they have been tracking me down since
yesterday. Damn those Dimeras!"
"Eric, why don't you calm down?" Jenny suggested feeling her
stomach tighten. "Let's not worry about it now."
"I can't let this go." Eric insisted getting up from the bed. "I
have to call my mother at the cabin and let her know what's going on."
"Mom, are you ready?" Brady asked tugging on his mother's arm.
"I just have to pack our lunches than I'm all set." Marlena
explained looking at the small child. "Why don't you see if your father
is ready to go?"
"Are you ready dad?" Brady asked turning to look at his father.
"You bet I'm ready slugger." John replied with a smile as he
watched his son's excitement.
"I can't wait to go to the circus. It's going to be so much
fun." Brady said excitedly looking at his plastic watch. "It's getting
late. We'd better leave."
"We will in just a minute. Now why don't you go see if your
sister is ready to go?" Marlena asked giving him a light nudge as she
glanced over at John. "I can't believe that he's this excited about
going to the circus."
"You know how much they love going to the circus Doc." John
reminded her.
"Yeah, but each time Brady acts as if it's his first time being
there." Marlena laughed listening to her kids talk in the other room. "I
just know that they are going to love this."
"What I still don't understand," John began wheeling over to her
side, "is how you managed to find a circus all the way out here."
"I have my ways." Marlena grinned leaning over to kiss him.
"You are just full of surprises aren't you?" John asked pulling
her down to him.
"You just wait." Marlena teased as the children ran out of their
rooms screaming and shouting.
"I want to see the clowns first!" Belle shouted at her brother.
"I want to see the tigers Belle!" Brady yelled back at her.
"Dad, tell Brady that we're going to see the clowns first." Belle
pleaded rushing over to her father.
"Honey, we are going to see it all today." John informed her with
a smile. "Now what do you say we load up the car?"
"Okay daddy." Belle replied taking John's hand. "Can you give me
a ride?"
"Sure sweetheart." John smiled picking her up and placing her on
his lap. "Are you ready to roll?"
"Let's go daddy!" Belle cheered excitedly.
"Are you coming Doc?" John questioned looking at Marlena as the
phone rang.
"You three go ahead." Marlena said walking over to the phone.
"I'll be there in a second."
"Okay," John said as Brady joined Belle on his lap. "Let's go
load the van."
"Hello," Marlena called out picking up the phone.
"Mom, I'm glad that I caught you." Eric's voice spoke through the
other end of the line.
"Eric, how are you doing sweetie?" Marlena questioned happy to
hear from her son.
"I'm okay, but I just wanted to let you know that things here are
starting to get crazy." Eric explained to her. "The reporters have been
calling my place hoping to get some kind of statement about Stefano's
trial. They've even tracked me down at Jenny's place looking for you."
"You haven't said anything have you?" Marlena asked worried that
the media would find her.
"No, I haven't said anything, but I don't know how long it's
going to be before someone finds out that you are at the cabin with John
and the kids." Eric insisted hoping that she would realize how big
Stefano's court case was going to be. "I wish that you'd just reconsider
speaking up for Stefano."
"You know that I can't do that Eric." Marlena sighed wishing that
she could just forget about Stefano and Salem for a little while. "I
have to do what's right."
"Even if it's going to cause nothing but problems for our
family." Eric added with a note of sarcasm in his voice. "How do you
think John's going to take this?"
"I'll burn that bridge when I get there." Marlena announced
realizing that she heard John's voice getting closer. "Listen, I have to
go."
"But mom......." Eric began.
"We can talk about this later. I love you." Marlena muttered
quickly hanging up the phone as John entered the cabin.
"Who was on the phone?" John questioned taking note of how tense
Marlena was looking.
"Eric." she replied quickly. "He just wanted to see how you were
doing."
"You should've let me talk to him." John said realizing that her
face had turned a pale shade of white. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." she said grabbing her purse off of the table top.
"Let's go."
"Did you talk to your mom?" Jenny asked coming back into the
bedroom after her shower.
"Yeah, I did." Eric explained in frustration. "I just don't see
why she won't let this thing go."
"Eric, she's doing what she thinks is right." Jenny reminded him
for the thousandth time.
"I know, but I hate it that Stefano is putting her in such an
akward position." Eric sighed taking her in his arms. "I hate that man
so much and I just hope that John will take the news about my mother's
testimony better than I am."
"He will." Jenny assured him as the phone rang. "I'll get it."
"Okay," Eric replied slumping down on the bed.
"Hello," Jenny said brightly answering the phone.
"Jenny, I'm glad that I caught you at home." Stefano's voice
called out on the other end of the line.
"What do you want?" she asked coldly realizing that Eric's eyes
were focused on her.
"I need to see you." Stefano insisted fiercely.
"I'm afraid it's not possible." Jenny announced as she locked
eyes with Eric.
"Oh it's possible," Stefano replied in anger, "and I expect to
see you down at the jail within the next hour of else."
"I understand." Jenny replied as Stefano hung up on her. "No
comment."
"Another reporter?" Eric questioned.
"Yeah," Jenny lied as she walked over to him.
"You know, I'm beginning to think that we should've gone away
with my mom and John." Eric announced pulling her down into his arms.
"It would've been easier that way."
